Tumut Shire Council provides Rubbish and Recycling services using wheelie bins. The new red lid bin is for non- recyclable rubbish and the old, original bin (Green Lid) is the recycling bin. Changes in Tumut Council's waste collection services with the introduction of collecting and reprocessing domestic recycling will reduce waste costs significantly as new technology and markets become available for recyclables.
By contrast, the cost of disposing waste to landfill is on the rise as pressure increases to reduce waste volumes and construction and maintenance costs for landfills increase to ensure compliance with environmental guidelines and industry standards. Tumut Shire Council does not provide any bulk waste service currently.
